COVID-19: Guidances to Enhance Migrant Worker Protection During the Current Health Crisis

The preliminary guidance is developed to support employers and labour recruiters to respond effectively to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

This will be "living documents" updated regularly for the duration of the pandemic. Upholding the human and labour rights of migrant workers and remedying adverse impacts is every company’s responsibility in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).

This resource is designed to help employers respond to the impact of COVID-19 more effectively and to enhance protections for migrant workers in their operations and supply chains. While it is specifically intended for employers, the resource will also be instructive for multinational enterprises as they address COVID-19-related challenges in their supply chains.

This resource provides guidance to labour recruiters on how to maintain high standards of ethical recruitment despite the challenges posed by COVID-19. 

During the current global health crisis, labour recruiters play an essential role in protecting migrant workers and ensuring essential services have the staff they need to provide elevated levels of care. Recruitment agencies are also on the frontlines of helping migrant workers get home and supporting those who have already returned to access social assistance, seek alternative livelihood opportunities and navigate the challenges related to reintegration in a time of mandatory quarantine and social distancing.
